Hornby Camp Recap

Our Hornby Camp was such a huge success this weekend, we are extremely happy with how it all went! There was a ton going on; from beach rugby (which there was lots of!) to lip-syncing contests! The kids had a great time, bonded as a group and left us some funny reviews in our club book! Check out the photos below:

The first night was spent around a propane fire pit, exchanging stories and singing songs! A true camping tradition.

The sound of singing and drumming could be heard from miles away. John Lyall and crew came in for the day to sing and teach the kids about Indigenous values. The wind whistling between the leaves of the trees, the water hitting the rocks below, and the beating of a drum, all added to the moment. A big part of the BC Grassroots foundation is indigenous culture, and giving everyone a glimpse of it was amazing! This was both a bonding and cultural experience for the group and it improved the camp immensely!

Two words: Beach Rugby!

The group got to play rugby on the beach everyday. They worked on their techniques in passing, catching, running and got to play lots of games. Everybody had a great time, even the coaches!

On the last evening of the camp, there was a little fort building contest, at Tribune Bay! There were some very cool and ingenious designs!

On our third day, we walked down to the water below the camp. It was a perfect day for fishing and swimming as the sky was clear and the water was calm. Clay was teaching the kids how to fish!

Our Happy campers!

Both coaches and campers left both meaningful and funny reviews in our camp book! :)

Thank you so much to all the kids that came out and spent the weekend with us! Thank you to the coaches and staff for doing an amazing job in the functioning of the weekend. We can’t forget to thank Mike Holmes and Davine Burton for sharing their beautiful home with everyone and allowing us to be the first to see the site that will soon be an amazing Rugby Club!
